Where is O Quy Ho Pass?

O Quy Ho Pass is also known as Cloud Pass because white clouds blanket the pass’s top all around the year.

The pass is situated right next to National Highway 4D, running through the Hoang Lien Son range and serving as the province boundary between Lai Chau and Lao Cai. With a height of nearly 2000m above sea level, O Quy Ho Pass is one of the highest and most spectacular passes in Vietnam.

O Quy Ho Pass is about 50 kilometers long, located on National Route 4D and about 15 kilometers from Sapa town center. There are two ways to get to O Quy Ho Pass: from Sapa town or from Lao Cai city center.

• From Sapa town: Start from the town’s bus station, drive down Dien Bien Phu Road to Silver Waterfall for 12 kilometers, continue straight to reach the top of the pass. Or else, you can ask the people in town and they will tell you the shortest route to O Quy Ho pass.
• From Lao Cai city center: You can take a bus, coach or rent a motorbike to get to Sapa. Then, you can follow the same route as mentioned above to reach O Quy Ho Pass.

• Additionally, you can go by cable car. You can purchase cable car tickets at the Fansipan peak station (where you buy tickets to visit Fansipan peak). You will travel from Fansipan peak to Thac Bac area, then go to Tram Ton station, and finally drive about 4-5 kilometers along National Route 4D to reach the top of O Quy Ho pass.
